Incarcerated 11 years, 3 months, 7 days
Shannon Ferguson was sentenced to 60 years in prison for a rock of cocaine the size of a coarse grain of salt. For Mr. Ferguson, who was 52 when he was arrested, this meant he would die in prison.
Mr. Ferguson represented himself in this case, filing his own motions, examining witnesses, and arguing his position without the advice of counsel. When he was convicted, the trial court sentenced him to decades above the mandatory minimum sentence. After 11 years, 3 months, and 7 days, Mr. Ferguson is finally free.
Our partners at The First 72+ for collaborating with IPNO’s Client Services Division to provide wraparound re-entry support to Mr. Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson is the 64th person IPNO has freed since 2001.
