IPNO Reports

IPNO released a report in 2008 that examined Harry Connick's tenure as New Orleans District Attorney. The report found that the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office regularly suppressed crucial evidence in cases, which cost taxpayers millions of dollars, sent innocent men to prison and exacerbated the crime problem in New Orleans.

IPNO garnered statistics based upon all 36 death sentences in Orleans Parish between 1973 and 2002 (the tenure of Harry Connick). Additionally, the report examined non-death penalty cases by reviewing 25 non-capital cases in which allegations of evidence suppression were brought to court.

Determinations of evidence suppression in this report were not based on a subjective review of the case files, but rather on published court opinions and court documents.

IPNO published a handbook for family members of Louisiana prisoners in post conviction proceedings whose cases fall outside IPNO's criteria for acceptance. It explains the complex post-trial criminal justice process in plain language, and was made possible by a grant from the Southern Poverty Law Center.
